Medical doctors often have a limited understanding of hypnotherapy, but can be a very good source of referrals for any hypnotherapist who takes the initiative to educate them. You can evolve a professional relationship by explaining hypnotherapy as an alternative for patients with illogical fears or who have not responded to traditional treatment. Developing skills specific to medical hypnosis is helpful, of course, but an understanding of the ethical boundaries between medicine and hypnotherapy will also help you communicate effectively with physicians.
